Harcourt North House

New house
199 square metres
2014

This spectacular rural site, on the northern flanks of Leanganook / Mount Alexander, provides a magnificent perching-place for this new off-grid home for a couple and their visiting family. Maximising energy efficiency and minimising physical impact on the land were both key throughout the design and construction process. To that end, the house floats over the granite-strewn, sloping land, looking out to the expansive sky and Sutton Grange valley views to the north and east. Connection with the land is maintained through the incorporation of deck and balcony areas along the north of the house, continually inviting occupants outside. The low building form and lightweight materials used reinforce the requirements for minimal visual and physical impact.
